Feminist Books. I only include books I have read, so keep checking back!
Can’t Buy My Love: How Advertising Changes the Way We Think and Feel – Jean Kilbourne – Highly recommended
The Beauty Myth: How Images of Beauty Are Used Against Women – Naomi Wolf – Highly recommended
Living Dolls: The Return of Sexism – Natasha Walter – Highly recommended
Introducing Feminism: A Graphic Guide – Cathia Jenainati – this is a fantastic little overview if you arent sure where to start and dont want t0o get into the heavy reading.
Bad Girls and Sick Boys: Fantasies in Contemporary Art and Culture – Linda S. Kauffman
Feminist Theory: A Reader – Wendy Kolmar, Frances Bartkowski. This stakes excerpts from the best books around. Its expensive, but a worthwhile purchase as it enables you to figure out whether other books are of interest to you or not without buying them first. To be fair, my reading list greatly extended on reading this. My amazon wishlist is rather extensive!!
Bitches, Bimbos, and Ballbreakers: The Guerrilla Girls’ Illustrated Guide to Female Stereotypes – Guerrilla Girls. This is fantastic! A must have in any book collection
Bad Girls (Frontiers in Political Communication) -A. Susan Owen et. al.
Bad Girls: The media, sex and feminism in the 90s – Catharine Lumby
The Subversive Stitch: Embroidery and the Making of the Feminine – Roszika Parker. This is for those of you who are interested in how embroidery has played a role in gender debates, as well as the oppression and submission of women since the middle ages. It is a fantastic read, but not for everyone =). If you are interested in craft, and in feminism however, this book is for you.
